The Russian Foreign Affairs and Defense Policy Committee was established in Moscow on February 25, 1992, with the aim of promoting the formulation and implementation of Russia's development strategies, foreign affairs, and defense policies, and fostering the formation of Russia's national civil society.
The main tasks of the committee are: (1) to develop and assess forward-looking plans for addressing Russia's domestic and international issues to protect its strategic interests in diplomacy, defense, and other areas; (2) to promote the formation of professional and objective decision-making mechanisms in the fields of foreign policy, defense policy, and military reform; (3) to propose practical schemes for cooperation between Russia and the world, especially with the CIS countries; (4) to conduct valuable research on diplomatic and defense policy issues, encourage innovative thinking, study and promote international experiences related to military-civil integration, military and security institution building and reform, and oversight of powerful departments; (5) to broaden information channels to enable society to widely understand the country's foreign affairs and defense policies; (6) to promote and develop academic and business contacts between members of the Russian Foreign Affairs and Defense Policy Committee and relevant institutions at home and abroad; (7) to develop various forms of cooperation among prominent figures in politics, the military, industry, academia, and the media.
