Ireni Pivetti, Former Speaker of the Italian Chamber of Deputies, Visits the International Cooperation Center

On December 6, Irene Pivetti, Honorary Chairman of the Euro-Sino Center and former Speaker of the Italian Chamber of Deputies; Dr. Liu Yuxiong, Chairman of Euro-Sino Center were invited to visit the Jianguomeno Office of the International Cooperation Center Joint Council (ICC). Entrusted by the ICC, Zhang Yu, Convenor of the Joint Meeting and Director of the Steering Committee of the ICC, met with Irene Pivetti, Liu Yuxiong and the delegation. The two sides believed that as the world is undergoing profound changes, China and the EU, as two major forces for peace and constructivity, stick to the right direction of strategic communication, open cooperation, exchange and mutual learning, which will benefit both sides and the world. The ICC is willing to work with the agencies such as Euro-Sino Center and  Irene Pivetti and Liu Yuxiong who are committed to the cause of bilateral friendship to seize the world trend and the period of strategic opportunities and contribute wisdom to promoting China-EU relations, as well as world peace and stability.

Di Dongsheng, Dean of the School of Global and Area Studies, Renmin University of China (RUC) held the seminar. The experts made exchanges on China-EU relations with Irene Pivetti and Liu Yuxiong. The two sides focused on the impact of the Russia-Ukraine conflict, the situation in the Middle East, the Trump administration and the change in European perceptions of China on China-Italy and China-EU relations, as well as the opportunities and challenges they face. The study holds that China and Italy are ancient civilizations and major economies in the world. The bilateral relations go beyond the bilateral scope. In the face of geopolitical challenges and disturbances, the two countries should adhere to the strategic nature of China-Italy relations and strive to put bilateral relations at the forefront of China-EU relations. We should promote China's high-quality development and Italy's economic growth. We should resist the clash of civilizations through mutual learning, promote the common values of mankind, and play a constructive role in the sustained development of China-EU relations. The two sides also exchanged views on international and regional issues of common concern.
