Recently, the International Cooperation Center Joint Council (ICC) and the United Nations System in China jointly celebrated the 79th United Nations Day and the 45th anniversary of the United Nations in China at the United Nations Compound in Beijing. UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres, said in his opening remarks at the UN Summit of the Future in September this year that the world is going through a period of upheaval and transition, and a decisive first step must be taken to renew and reform international cooperation. He called on the Summit to consider deep reforms to make global institutions more legitimate, equitable and effective, based on the values of the UN Charter. UN Resident Coordinator in China Siddharth Chatterjee delivered a speech on behalf of the UN system in China
Representatives of the representative offices of the United Nations system in China took the stage to greet. In his speech, Siddharth Chatterjee, UN Resident Coordinator in China, highlighted the changes and remarkable achievements of China's economic and social development in the past 45 years of the UN's presence in China, as well as the challenges posed by the increasingly severe global situation to the Sustainable Development Goals. He called on all parties to implement the Compact for the Future adopted at the UN Future Summit in September this year, while accelerating the process of realizing the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and the Sustainable Development Goals.
Siddharth Chatterjee, UN Resident Coordinator in China said in his speech: "To address these challenges, more efforts are still needed, and real opportunities for international cooperation and multilateralism need to be provided. We must take an interconnected and inclusive approach, bringing together global expertise to come up with solutions adapted to the realities of the 21st century. We will work with China to build on the UN Cooperation Framework for Sustainable Development in China (2021-2025) and plan a new cooperation framework for 2026-2030 to help China implement its new five-year development plan."
