The Special Representative of the ICC Meets Ambassador of Bangladesh to China Md Nazmul Islam

On 13 March 2025, Zhang Yu, Convenor of the Joint Meeting and Director of the Steering Committee of the ICC (International Cooperation Center) met Ambassador Md Nazmul Islam, the new ambassador of Bangladesh to China.

The two sides exchanged in-depth views on bilateral relations and regional situation. Both had a constructive discussions on international and regional issues of common interest. Both agreed that over the years, bilateral relations between China and Bangladesh have withstood the difficulties of the international situation and the domestic situation in Bangladesh, yet it maintained a strong momentum of development. In this 50th anniversary of China-Bangladesh diplomatic relationship year, ICC will strengthen cooperation with the Embassy of Bangladesh in various areas through“one and a half track” channel such as: regional security, humanitarian affairs and safeguarding the common interests of developing countries. Both will deepen the high-quality joint construction of the Belt and Road, as well as promote the steady and long-term development of China-Bangladesh comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership.

The two sides stressed the importance of maintaining security in the Asia-Pacific and peace stability in Southern Asia. The interim government of Bangladesh is now advancing its political reform and election agenda. The two sides believe that Bangladesh will overcome difficulties and return to the track of unity, stability, prosperity and development. In recent years, the international community has paid close attention to the situation in Bangladesh and neighbouring countries. With the support of multilateral organizations such as UNHCR, the ICC will strengthen the coordination with stakeholders on providing the assistance to the displaced persons and refugee groups in Bangladesh. Both sides agreed that they will promote China and Bangladesh to strengthen the exchange of experience in governance, reform, and help Bangladesh's economic social development. Both will step up coordination on international affairs, strengthen cooperation within the UN as well as other multilateral frameworks, finally to deepen friendly exchanges and mutually beneficial cooperation among countries of the "Global South".

The two sides reached important consensus on developing China-Bangladesh friendly relations on the basis of the Five Principles of Peaceful Coexistence, promoting bilateral high-level exchanges and mutually beneficial cooperation in various fields. Mu Dong, the Asia-Pacific Affairs Advisor of the ICC, Cheng Yu, the Executive Secretary General of the ICC, Xin Shaosong, the Deputy Director of Office of the ICC, Mohammad Mominul Hoque Bhuiyan, the Commercial Counsellor and Md Ziaur Rahman, the Economic Counsellor of Bangladesh had attended the meeting.
