Ambassador of Afghanistan to China Karimi visits the ICC

On 19 March 2025, M. Asadullah Bilal Karimi, Ambassador of the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan to China, visited the Jianguomen office of the International Cooperation Center (ICC). Zhang Zhixiang, member of the Strategic Advisory Committee of the ICC, and Zhang Yu, Convenor of the Joint Meeting and Director of the Steering Committee of the ICC, met with Ambassador Karimi. The two sides had in-depth exchanges on bilateral relations between China and Afghanistan, the current situation of Afghanistan and its regional situation, moreover actively discussed issues of common concern. Both sides unanimously expressed that this year marks the 70th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Afghanistan. Over the past 70 years, regardless of how the international situation has changed, China and Afghanistan have always maintained good neighborly relations and mutual assistance. The International Cooperation Center will maintain contact with the Embassy of Afghanistan in China and coordinate to enhance the joint efforts of China and the international community to support the peaceful reconstruction of Afghanistan.

Both sides emphasized the importance of strengthening international cooperation with the security of the Asia-Pacific region as well as the peace and stability of South Asia. Both sides noted that over the past year, more and more countries have engaged in dialogue and cooperation with the interim government of Afghanistan, effectively supporting Afghanistan's reconstruction and development. China supports the international community in strengthening mutual trust with the interim government of Afghanistan and resolving their respective concerns through dialogue. China is willing to continuously promote the development of relations between Afghanistan and its neighboring countries through channels such as the coordination mechanism among neighboring countries of Afghanistan, and better integrate into regional economic cooperation. The ICC sincerely hopes that the Afghan people will live in peace and happiness, and looks forward to Afghanistan playing a more constructive role in international affairs. Ambassador Karimi said that Afghanistan attaches great importance to a peaceful and stable environment. Afghanistan regards China's security threats as a challenge to itself and will not allow any activities that undermine China's security and stability to occur within its territory. It will continue to strengthen the protection of the legitimate rights and interests of Chinese citizens as well as enterprises. Both sides agreed to conduct "one and a half track" high-level dialogue and consultation within bilateral or multilateral frameworks on major issues of common concern regarding regional security, humanitarian affairs, and safeguarding the common interests of developing countries.

Ambassador Karimi invited the ICC to visit Afghanistan with the support and coordination of the Afghan Embassy in China. Both sides reached important consensus on adhering to the Five Principles of Peaceful Coexistence to develop bilateral friendly relations between China and Afghanistan, coordinating the development of Afghanistan, maintaining peace order in the South Asian region, and promoting high-level exchanges and practical cooperation in various fields between the two countries. Feng Yuping, the visiting expert of the ICC, Cheng Yu, the Executive Secretary of the ICC, Wu Zhonglin, the Executive Director of the ICC’s Development Committee, Xin Shaosong, the Deputy Director of the ICC's Office; Hasibullah Habibi, the First Secretary of the Embassy of Afghanistan to China and Ubaidullah Khanzada, the Ambassador’s Assistant attended the meeting.
