the United Nations Summit of the Future is an important opportunity for all sides to strengthen international cooperation to address major challenges, bridge the gaps in global governance, reaffirm existing commitments, including those to the Sustainable Development Goals and the United Nations Charter, revitalize the vitality of the multilateral system, and make it more capable of bringing positive impacts on people's lives. Building on the 2023 Sustainable Development Goals Summit, member states deliberated on how to lay the foundation for more effective global cooperation to address current challenges and future new threats. The International Cooperation Center is a long-term strategic partner of the United Nations system in China. With the support of the Chinese government, both sides have successively hosted important conferences such as the “United Nations Summit of the Future China Preparatory Meeting” and the "International Dialogue on Development and Cooperation in the Global South". Before the United Nations Summit of the Future, both sides jointly proposed and signed the "International Cooperation Initiative for the Future Oriented" together.
The international community generally believes that the current correct direction is to leverage the role of the United Nations, improve the global governance system, and enhance the status of developing countries. Siddharth Chatterjee, the UN Resident Coordinator in China, and his office are important bridges to connect China with the UN system. During the cooperation period of the International Cooperation Center (ICC) and the UN system in China, the ICC has witnessed the key role played by Siddharth Chatterjee, in convening, coordinating and promoting actions in maintaining focus on the Sustainable Development Goals. Through "one and a half track" diplomacy, the ICC has promoted the strengthening of the core role of the United Nations by all sides concerned, advocated unity, mutual trust, made addressing common challenges, maintaining common security, achieving common development and building a common future as important goals. It ensures that the UN Summit of the future truly brings hope to the world. At the same time, it advocates that all UN member states support the reform of the development system initiated by the UN Secretary-General, so that the UN development system conforms to its purpose.
