On September 22, the 2023 Forum on International Communication of Chinese Culture was convened at the Academy of Chinese Culture (ACC). The forum, with the theme of “implementing the global civilizations initiative towards greater progress of human civilizations”, attracted nearly 400 personages from the cultural and international communication sectors.
Mr. Hao Mingjin, Vice Chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People’s Congress (NPC) and President of ACC, addressed the opening ceremony. Among the other notable attendees and speakers were Jiang Jianguo, Vice Chairperson of the Standing Committee of 14th Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) National Committee and Deputy Director of the Committee on Ethnic and Religious Affairs under the CPPCC National Committee, Du Zhanyuan, President of China International Communications Group (CICG) and member of the Standing Committee of the 14th CPPCC National Committee, Yang Dan, Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee of Beijing Foreign Studies University (BFSU) and President of the university, and Jia Deyong, Secretary-General of the International Confucian Association (ICA). The opening ceremony was presided over by Ji Lin, First Vice President of ACC, and the keynote speech session was chaired by Lu Cairong, Vice President of CIGC. Eminent speakers included Wang Shiming, Deputy Director of the Committee on Culture, Historical Data and Studies under the 13th CPPCC National Committee; Wang Meng, former Minister of Culture, recipient of the national honorary title “People’s Artist” and Honorary Vice Chairman of China Writers Association, Zhu Rui, former Assistant Minister of the International Department of the CPC Central Committee, Zhu Hongwen, Deputy Director of the Palace Museum; Mo Yan, Vice Chairman of China Writers Association and laureate of Nobel Prize in Literature, and Roger T. Ames, Vice Chairman of ICA, Distinguished Professor at BFSU, and Chair Professor of Humanities of Peking University. These distinguished guests presented keynote addresses. Cheng Yu, the Executive Secretary-General of the Joint Council of International Cooperation Center (ICC), and Xin Shaosong, the Executive Deputy Director of the Office of the ICC Joint Council, were invited to the forum.
Featured by two roundtable discussions, the forum focused on “the Creation and Overseas Communication of Contemporary Chinese Literary Works” and “Chinese Culture in a Global Context” respectively, and delved into the pathways of international communication for Chinese culture. Notable participants who delivered speeches via video included Professor Lou Yulie from the Philosophy Department of Peking University, Wang Chunfa, member of the NPC Education, Science, Culture and Public Health Committee and Director of the National Museum of China, Mou Zhongjian, a Professor at Minzu University of China and winner of the Confucius Culture Prize, Yang Geng, former Vice President and Professor of Beijing Normal University, as well as other representatives of overseas sinologists.

The 2023 Forum on International Communication of Chinese Culture is guided by CIGC, ACC, BFSU, the Palace Museum, ICA, and the National Museum of China, initiated by the Center for International Cultural Communication of CICG, and co-hosted by the Center for Studies on Chinese Civilization at ACC, and the Institution on International Communication of Chinese Culture at BFSU. On September 14 this year, the first Forum on International Communication of Chinese Culture was recognized as one of the “Top Ten Events in the building of the National Cultural Center in 2022”.
