Experts and diplomats have gathered at the UN Compound in Beijing for a high-level symposium on Asia-Pacific cooperation and development. Amid rising global uncertainty, the event focused on enhancing regional coordination in macroeconomic policy, digital innovation, and sustainable growth, with a clear message that multilateralism remains essential. With the Asia-Pacific region contributing over 60 percent to global growth, speakers at the symposium called for deeper cooperation, not just for mutual benefit, but to ensure a more inclusive and sustainable global recovery.
SIDDHARTH CHATTERJEE UN Resident Coordinator in China "What we are seeing in ASEAN, in the Asia Pacific region, is sustained leadership. We need the leadership of China as part of not just of Asia Pacific, but as a leader of the G77, to really help shape, shepherd and move the agenda towards development, because that is precisely what people need, more development, so that more jobs can be created, allow more green transitions to happen, achieve food security, make sure that we are able to end poverty just the way China has managed to end abject poverty. We would need that for the entire Asia Pacific ecosystem.
MA SHENGRONG Chief expert of International Cooperation Center "The Asia-Pacific region should work on building its own clusters, for example in areas like auto parts, semiconductors, and rare earths. If we get these right, it will greatly benefit the region's development and better counter challenges from other regions. The more governments and companies that are willing to cooperate, the more paths and opportunities will emerge.
